ABSTRACT
Background & Objectives: Determining chronological age of persons within the range of 15.5 to 23.5 years remains a problem. There are many ways of determining age in human. To aim of this study to evaluate the average age of appearance of various stages of third molars in upper & lower jaw. Material & Methods: This is a prospective study as many cases as available between the study period from Jan 2015 to December 2015.All the subjects will be evaluated by radiological examination according to Demirjan’s stages of the development of third molar teeth. Results: The present study includes 140 subjects (68 males and 72 females), the age group 16-25 years, The our results show that in the 16 to 17 years of age in subjects show D & E stage of development (Demirjan’s stages) of upper & lower right and left molar tooth, in the age group 20 years onwards show H stages of development of the teeth. Conclusion: The developmental stages of the third molar can be the only quantitative biologic variable available for estimating the age of a person in his/her late teens or early 20s, but due to the considerable variability of the third molar detracts from precise age estimates, it can be suggestive in the absence of better information.
