ABSTRACT
Background: Suicide is the human act of self inflicted self-intentional cessation. It is a tragic event that happens frequently in all ages, race, culture, religion and geography. Some people, for reasons that have never been fully understood choose to end their own lives. Aim & objectives: The our aim of this study, various pattern of suicidal deaths to analyze various causative factors. Material & Methods: A sum total of 100 cases were selected, from them by simple random sampling for this prospective study. All cases brought to the department for medico-legal autopsy with an alleged history of suicide and which were later detected as suicide were selected. Detailed information regarding the deceased and the circumstances of death was collected from the police and relatives, by a questionnaire. Results: The present study observed that maximum number of suicides seen in the age group of 20 to 29 years (42%) in males & (19%) in females. Hanging (59%) was the most common pattern of suicide. Home was the ideal place preferred by many persons to commit suicide (74%), whereas workplace (3%) was preferred by least number of people. Conclusion: The study concluded that Suicide by Burns and Poisoning are more common in females, while hanging, drowning and fall under train are the most common method used by males to committing suicide dominantly.
