ABSTRACT
Cardiac arrest is a rare but serious cardiovascular adverse effect of Metoclopramide. In view of previously reported cases of cardiac arrest from Metoclopramide, clinicians should be alerted to avoid rapid intravenous administration. It should prompt a critical re-evaluation of the risk/benefit of Metoclopramide and consideration of therapeutic alternatives or modification of the method of administration. We report a case of parturient that developed cardiac arrest after receiving intravenous (IV) Metoclopramide and review the mechanism in literature to attribute the incident to adverse drug reaction (ADR).
Key-words: Metoclopramide, adverse drug reactions, cardiac arrest, supraventricular tachycardia.
