ABSTRACT

Background: Pelvic pathologies are a common clinical problem in the female population. Methods: A prospective imaging study of 50 patients was carried out by 1.5 TESLA MRI scanner with the objective to study the MRI features of various pelvic pathologies and to evaluate the role of MRI in diagnosis of the various gynaecological pathologies. Results: Even a study of 50 cases which is by no means large emphasizes the revolution brought by MRI in imaging, female pelvic pathologies Uterus was the most common site of pathology accounting for 60.00% of patients followed by adnexal pathologies in 30.00% cases. Leiomyoma was most common pelvic pathology accounting for 28.00%. Congenital anomalies were the next most common pathology accounting for 16.00% of cases. Conclusion: The present study conclude that magnetic imaging (MRI) plays an important role to evaluate female pelvic pathologies with its high contrast resolution, ability to provide good tissue characterization, multiplanar imaging capabilities and without any risk of ionizing radiation.

Key-words: Female pelvic pathology, MRI, Leiomyomas, Adenomyosis, Mullerian duct anomalies, Adnexal pathologies.
